The constant path "from blue to green" is rewarded: MAC was named a finalist for the German Sustainability Award 2023. This makes the pants specialist one of the favorite contenders for the important award with a europe-wide scope.

“MAC was founded in Bavaria in 1973 and is now the market leader for women's and men's pants in Europe, with jeans making up a significant proportion of the product range. The company launched GOTS-certified products as early as 2019 and switched completely to sustainable cotton in 2020. In 2021 alone, 10 million meters of fabric were processed into pants. As an alternative to conventionally manufactured jeans, which are still criticized for their high consumption of resources, MAC is working intensively on circular-based jeans and environmentally friendly production innovations: In the course of the transformation "FROM BLUE TO GREEN - Re-Designing Denim Traditions", MAC is working in a "Green Denim” which will be made from 100% recycled cotton, synthetic or regenerative fibers by 2030. The proportion of regenerative fibers, e.g. from bamboo and hemp, should be at least 40%. The MAC "Green Denim" is a clear statement for a more conscious use of resources, which promises a considerable potential for influence on the market, partners and customers due to the high brand awareness of the manufacturer."

This is the justification given by the expert jury for the nomination as a finalist in the German Sustainability Award 2023.

The German Sustainability Award has been Europe's largest award for ecological and social commitment since 2008 and honors pioneers in Germany for their extraordinary achievements in the field of sustainability and innovation. The prize, which will be awarded for the 15th time in 2023, is one of the most important institutions in Europe and is the most coveted award in the field of sustainability. MAC is in the final round for the German Sustainability Award 2023 in the transformation field "Resources". In the course of the transformation "FROM BLUE TO GREEN - Re-Designing Denim Traditions", the MAC "Green Denim" should consist of 100% recycled cotton, synthetic or regenerative fibers by 2030. As early as 2012, the first productions of 250,000 pairs of jeans made from recycled outer fabric were sold.

The topic of sustainability has been firmly anchored in the MAC brand DNA since the company was founded in 1973 and the nomination as a finalist shows that the fashion company is successful on the continuous path "From Blue to Green" and is regarded as an industry pioneer. “MAC is honored to be named a finalist,” says Eveline Schönleber, CEO of MAC Mode GmbH & Co KGaA. "Reaching the final round confirms and strengthens our motivation and passion with which we work on important solutions and innovations relating to sustainability every day."
